City art programme LIFT 2016

For years LIFT has been pioneering new forms of theatre, presenting spectacular performances and moments of magic in every corner of London, also in countless hidden spaces and places across the city. LIFT is firmly rooted in the life of this great city and of its people, celebrating the experiences of the many individuals, cultures and communities that call London home. City art programme of the festival edition 2016 includes site-specific circus show Depart from Australia devised and performed together with Londoners; a Circa production co-commissioned by LIFT, National Centre for Circus Arts, Spitalfields Music, Hull 2017 UK City of Culture, LeftCoast and Brighton Festival and supported by the Creative Europe Programme as part of Urban Heat project.

Circa (Australia)

June 16 - 26, Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

Haunting sights and sounds will seduce you down a path punctuated by unexpected encounters as you weave through the dark space between life and death…

Led by Yaron Lifschitz and his internationally acclaimed company, Circa and with a creative team including the electronic musician Lapalux this ethereal collaboration brings circus artists, choral singers, designers and musicians together in a Victorian cemetery, a place where many of those who once entered this city are now buried. Overtures drift between the tombstones, while shadowy objects hang precariously like frozen birds above your head…
